All have various levels of embellishment which highlight the event or person being honored including engraving, silver, gold or pewter plating of the receiver and other parts of the gun, as well as higher grades and figure of wood in the stocks and forends.
Most of the original sleeve art has been done by noted western artist Joseph Ferrara and are almost as enjoyable to collect as the commemoratives themselves. For the guns to retain their full value to the collector, the guns must be in “New In Box” NIB condition, that is, they are unfired in their original boxes with all associated paperwork and accessories including the outer sleeve as they were shipped from the factory. Winchester has had factories worldwide producing the some of the finest firearms known.
